Come with EDT as we travel through lands shrouded in mountain mists and fog, and visit cultures in remote regions that remain largely untouched by modern trends. Journey with us as we visit the Carpatho-Rusyn people of eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine, a Jewish couple form northeastern Hungary, and the Saxons of Transylvania. Our travels would not be complete without visiting the Ukrainians from Bukovina, Hungarians from the meadows of central Transylvania, the Romanians of Oas, Transylvania, the Poles from Zakopane, Poland and the Vlach people living along the Homolje range of the Carpathians in eastern Serbia. A familiar component to frequent EDT concert attendees is the slide show/voice over introduction and overview to each region.

The Ethnic Dance Theatre Orchestra will provide the musical accompaniment for the dancers and will include musical sets as well. Colleen Bertsch, a Ph.D. graduate student in Ethnomusicology will direct the Orchestra. Colleen recently returned from a 9 month research trip to Transylvania where she studied the string bands and their techniques from this fascinating part of the world. The Orchestra is joined by soloist, Natalie Nowytski, acclaimed ethnic singer and musician, who needs no introduction to EDT audiences.

In addition to the 2 act concert, Friday also offers a Q & A with Artistic Director, Donald LaCourse and members of the cast. On Saturday at 6 pm, there will be a master class offered in the dance studio adjacent to the lobby. Anyone with a ticket for any of the shows may attend free. On Sunday, the audience will be invited to join the cast on stage to dance to the EDT Orchestra.

If you have questions, please call EDT at 651-341-5312.
